I just googled to make sure Georgette Heyer wasn’t a pen name for a man. She really was a woman – born in 1902. She died in 1974. Times have changed and so has word usage.
Personally, I think she was stereotyping women – and now I’m going to listen carefully and see if I can find some men using the word.
